Why I don’t connect posts from one tool to another November 3, 2011

Many people use HootSuite and other similar tools to pull posts from one Social Media tool to another….

I personally do not use them.

The main problem is that anyone who likes you business page on Facebook and follows you on Twitter will see duplicate posts. The same can happen if they are your friend on Facebook and follow your page.  You don’t want to annoy anyone by filling up their newsfeeds with duplicate posts.

As well,  Twitter often will cut off the posts from your Facebook updates in a bad spot because they are too long.  Your “tweets” pulled from Facebook will also have an fb.link following it, so many people will not click because they perceive that you are not really tweeting.  Some posts also look awkward and often don’t make sense, when pulled from one tool to another.

Personally, I prefer to make posts that are just for Facebook, and tweets that are just for Twitter. It is more personalized and it won’t give your followers the feeling that you are not really engaged with them, and then deciding to unfollow or unlike you.

Remember Social Media is all about building relationships and engagement, so take the time and effort and it will pay off.
